Title of book: Heartbeat

Author: Sharon Creech

Summary of story: This is a story told in poetry verses told about 13-year old Annie who loves to draw, run barefoot, and spend time with her grandfather and temperamental friend Max. Her world begins to unravel when she learns that her mother is pregnant and she becomes aware that her beloved Grandpa is losing touch of reality. Juggling these changes and the daily challenges of school, art class, and chores, she still manages to grow with the rhythm of life, one heartbeat at a time.

What I like about this book: Annie takes the changes in her life in her stride, showing true resilience and spirit. This charmed me very much as it gives emotion and thoughtfulness to the story, showing how Annie grows with the rhythm of her own heartbeat.

Why I will recommend it to my friends: You must pick up this book as it will give you a fresh start to 2008. It is rich in affection, sprinkled with serenity and absolutely heartwarming. When I read the story, I found it so engaging that I was able to step into the shoes of Annie and watch the world go by. This has encouraged me to be more loving and appreciative, and more observant in life.
